An article titled “Partial Pre-Image Attack on Proof-of-Work based Blockchains” written by Dr. Hamza Baniata and Dr. Attila Kertész has been published in the open access Q1 journal Blockchain: Research and Applications.
The paper discusses the security of PoW-based Blockchain (BC) referring to the calculations presented in the original Bitcoin white paper. The calculations’ accuracy depends mainly on specific assumptions that may not always be correct. To test the accuracy, the authors presented a generalized attack model and proposed a new benchmark to assess the security level of PoW-based systems against the attack studied.
